PROGRAM: EDUCATION
Issue: Malawi Government only pays for Elementary Education – K-8.
……Nguludi Mission [4% (2,000) of the 50,000 are of HS age — 40% (800) do not
……attend school. 60% (1,200) attend Catholic, Non-Catholic Private & Public HS.
……There is a chronic shortage of Catholic High Schools, especially those that
……offer a combination Academic & Technical curriculum with Science Labs.]
Need: Tuition support for high school Nguludi Mission students.
Status: The SASP Program was one of the first major support programs which
……currently supports 81 HS students and 6 Post-HS students (e.g. Nursing).
Project: Continue annual SASP Program. 2016 HS Tuition: $150/Yr (Increase
……result of 25% increase in 2016 cost-of-living).
Note: In addition to Sponsorship of students in August, matching funds and
other donations are made Sep-Jul.

Status: St. Joseph High School built 2015 (365 students).

05. FAITH FORMATION

PROGRAM: EDUCATION
Issue: Lack of a Faith Formation Program.
Need: A uniform Faith Formation Program for 21,000 parishioners.
Status: In 2012 a St. Joseph Pastor made visit to HFK Malawi to sign a Covenant
…… Renewal, and at which time HFK presented its Faith Formation Program.
…….Nguludi Mission began implementing Faith Formation Program at 7,000/Yr.
Plan: 2014-5: 7,000 and 2015-16: 7,000; 2016-17: Plan for 7,000.  $5,000/yr
Status: Phase-1a: 2014 – 7,000;  Phase-1b: 2015 – 7,000.
Current Project: Phase-1c: 2016 – 7,000. $2,000

 06. WATER WELLS SUPPORTING ALL PARISHES

PROGRAM: ENVIRONMENT
Issue: 05% dying each year due to dirty water.
Need: 10 Water Wells (2 Parishes will share 1 Water Well).
Status: 7 Water Wells installed.  Number dying from dirty water reduced to 5%.
Plan: – Install 1 Water Well per year. $7,500/each
Status: > 2012-2015: 8 Water Wells installed. (Now 75% have access to clean water).
Current Project:  2016: 1 Water Well at St. Michael Parish – $7,000.

Initial Issue:
50% Maize (corn) crop lost annually.
Current Issue
: Cost of Nuts and Bean warranted adding storage capability.
Need: 5 Multi-Purpose Storage Units (all built at St. Joseph Parish Center).
Status: 3 Multi-Purpose Units installed – Maize Crop loss reduced to 25%.
Plan: Monthly storage costs shared by Parishes.  Cost: $7,000/each Storage Unit.
Current Project: 2016: $8,500
……… a. Upgrade 2 installed Units and  install 1 new Unit (Maize, Nuts, Beans).
……….b. Implement an Improved Maintenance Program ($8,500/each)

Plan: 2016: Initial Phase of Animal Farming requested by Nguludi Mission. $5,000
Current Project: 2016: A Donation Program is being implemented to support the Farm Animals storage and maintenances needs.

 11. ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL — MEDICAL SUPPLIES.

PROGRAM: ENVIRONMENT
Background:
St. Joseph’s Hospital spends approximately $10,000 per month for drugs and medical supplies.
2016: a 25% Cost-of-Living increase is placing a strong impact on maintaining  a basic supply of drugs and medical needs.
Issue: 2016 25% increase in Cost-of-Living has increased hardship of buying medical supplies.
Status: 2016 St. Joseph Hospital spends $10,000/year on medical supplies.
Plan: Current costs of medical supplies are being impacted 25%.
Major Needs:     (Funds for Drugs & Supplies)
 a. Drugs:
(1). Analgesics –  Aspirin, Paracetamol, Codeine, Ibuprofen, Diclofenal tablets, pethnidine.
(2). Antibiotics – Amoxycillin capsules, Ampicillin capsules, Cetriaxone injection, Bensy/Penicillin
…….. injection, 
Metronidazole tables, Metronidazole injection, Gentamycin injection,
………Chloramphenicol injection.

(3). I.V. Fluids – Dextrose 5% (1000 mls), normal Saline (1000 mls), Lingers Lactate (1000 mls).
(4). Drugs for Anesthesia – Ketamine injection, Halothane, Litocaine 5% + dextrose for spiral.
Note: Anti-Malaria Drugs provided by Malawi Government Program.
b. Supplies:
(1). Surgical Items -Gauze, cotton wool, latex gloves, surgical gloves, sutures (i) vicyrl 1, 2, 2-0.
(2). Dental Items – Lignocaine I.M., dental needles, amalgam needles, amalgam capsules,
……chemical cure, composite 
filling material, drilling bars, cryers elevators.
(3). Laboratory – Heamocuvetes 201, EDTA tubes, plain tubes, frosted slides, plain slides,
……..Glucose reagent, Diluent 
for chemistry analyzer, thermal paper of chemistry analyzer,
……..multi-sticks, Syphilis antigen kit, blood bags, yellow
 tips, methylated spirit,
……..chlorine (HTH 70%).
c. Financial Needs: $1,000/year.
