Animal Farming, Phase 1 – Pig Farming

Raising Pigs for food and income is the first phase of implementing  Animal Farming.

This phase was predicated on the amount of food it will provide for the Mission as well as a source of income.

Construction of Water Wells

Lack of access to clean water causes an estimated 10% death rate.

The original 2014-15 Plan was to install 9 Wells in the 11 Villages at a cost of $7,000/Well.

As of 2017-18 Budget, 5 Wells have been installed with an increase  in price to $11,000 (+36%) due primarily to unanticipated requirement for deeper Wells in the remaining remote villages.

  • Annual Goal: $11,000 10%

Construction of Grain Storage Units

Maize (corn) is Malawi’s main staple food, grown and consumed everywhere in the country. Without adequate processing and food storage facilities, nearly 50% of the maize crop is lost after harvest.

As of 2017-18 Budget, two storage units have been installed and adapted to add storage of nuts and beans. The plan is to install two more storage units over the next two years.

  • Annual Goal: $7,000 5%
