Grain Storage Units
Maize (corn) is Malawi’s main staple food, grown and consumed everywhere in the country. Without adequate processing and food storage facilities, nearly 50% of the maize crop is lost after harvest.
The original 2014-15 Plan was to install 4 Grain Storage Units (3 Silos each) at St. Joseph Parish Center at a cost of $7,000 each to address the problem of 45% loss in crops without storage units.
As of 2017-18 Budget, two storage units have been installed and adapted to add storage of nuts and beans. The plan is to install two more storage units over the next two years.
